I’ve been using the RainPoint smart watering system for a little while and wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar experience.
For the rain sensor, sometimes it feels like the response is not very sensitive or not reacting as quickly as expected after rainfall. I’m wondering if placement makes a big difference — for example, whether it should be kept fully open to rain, away from the roof edge, trees, or sprinklers.
Also, I’ve noticed the network connection can be a bit slow sometimes when checking the app or switching devices. Has anyone found a good way to improve the connection speed? Would moving the hub closer, reconnecting the device, or checking the WiFi signal help?
Would love to hear how others solved this, especially if you’ve already tested different setups in your yard. Thanks!
If I start switching between devices quickly and editing settings then yes I can get a white screen. It rained yesterday and the rain gauge did shut off the timers for 3 days so that worked fine. I am at -60dbm signal strength and looking that up the response was that it’s considered a strong signal.
The signal strength is shown through the rain gauge’s settings icon in the top right of the rain gauge screen. My rain sensor is out in the open, no obstructions.
I was able to move the Hub up higher onto a shelf with direct line of sight to my router and the signal strength increased to -27dbm from the hub to the router and the app seems more snappy from were I had the hub before. Today the Rain Gauge shows -49dbm with one wall in-between the rain gauge and the hub at about 60 feet way. The water timers show high -80’s dbm but seems to still work ok. Moisture meter is -56dbm at about 75 feet. I am using standard power on the devices, not enhanced. I am an old guy with lots of free time. Good luck.
Edit: After having the rainpoint system now for about a month I reset the hub. When I did that the devices hooked to the hub started auto-connecting one by one until all the devices were back online. That cured the hangs and other issues I started to notice over time. I did not loose my settings doing this.
