Help with continuous 'Poor Network' preventing app login

I am trying to set up my Rainpoint system with App and am getting extremely frustrated by the poor App experience. It won’t even let me open the app, always claiming ‘Poor Network’ but no explanation of what that is or how to fix it.

I can see my hub clearly on my network, it is strongly connected to a Mesh hub at 2.4GHz. I have a separate IoT network for these devices set to 2.4GHz.

I am also connected to the Mesh and have tried both 5G and 2.4G but keep getting ‘Poor Network’ message and am unable to open the app at all. This is quite a bad user experience with no diagnosis or assistance for what to do.

Can someone please advise how to proceed or I will need to send this back for a refund.

thank you

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

This issue is usually caused by missing app permissions.

Check if the app’s local network permission is enabled (as shown in the image). Adding a WiFi device requires granting the app location permission to read WiFi information. On iOS, find the “Privacy & Security” option in Settings, then tap “Local Network” to check if the app has granted permission to use the local network.

If the problem persists, try uninstalling the RainPoint app from your phone.
Download and reinstall the latest version of the RainPoint app from the app store.
When you open the app for the first time after reinstalling, it will request certain permissions; please grant all requested permissions.

If the problem remains, please provide:
Your phone model and operating system version
A screenshot of the “Poor network signal” message

We will investigate further. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

I ended up returning the unit but after a different one arrived with the same problem I did work out the resolution (with a lot of trial and error and help from Claude). I am posting here to save others the hours of troubleshooting.

The issue was related to my ISP (Community Fibre UK). Their DNS server was not passing traffic to whatever the Rainpoint one is. To fix it I changed my mesh hub to use another DNS provider, then the app worked again.
