My Cymbidium sinense is blooming, but leaf tips are browning — help! 🌱

Hey orchid crew :waving_hand:

Look at my Cymbidium sinense popping with those deep red blooms! :star_struck: Most leaves are glossy green, so I thought it was doing great… until I noticed a couple of things.

  • One old flower spike is completely dried out and brown. Should I cut it off now?

  • A few leaf tips are turning brown and crispy. Any ideas why?

It’s near a small water feature, so I thought humidity was covered, but maybe not? Any quick fixes or thoughts would be awesome!

Thanks, fam! :folded_hands:

Looking great! :cherry_blossom: Those deep red blooms are stunning — Cymbidium sinense is such a classic.

For the dried-out spike: totally normal. Once it’s fully brown and crispy, you can cut it near the base. The plant’s done with it and won’t miss it.

The crispy leaf tips though… could be a few things. If it’s just a couple leaves, might be minerals building up from tap water (they can be sensitive). Or if the air’s moving near that water feature, maybe a bit of draft stressing the tips. Could also be watering consistency — they like staying moist but not soggy.

If it’s not spreading fast, I wouldn’t panic. Maybe just trim the brown tips for looks and keep an eye on it. Hope that helps — enjoy those blooms! :herb:

Gorgeous blooms! Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much about the crispy tips — my orchids do that sometimes and they’re perfectly happy. Probably just the plant being dramatic. Cut that old spike if it bothers you, or leave it, doesn’t really matter.
